Ice Dam's - by Cliff Anderson
This is the time of the year where I start looking at my roof. You need to watch for ice cycles, and especially ice dam’s. So when you look at the edges of your roof the dam’s will appear right along the edge where the water drips off. If there is an ice row (dam) appearing, it is time to get the snow off the edge of the roof. Remove as many ice cycles as possible and look at the valleys above any edge of the roof. Theses are the areas that cause water to back up behind the dams. If water stays there long enough it will cause a leak.
It is much better to spend money before it leaks and causes interior damage. Because at that point, you still have the cost to revoke the ice dams, but then you have the additional costs to repair dry wall, paint and sometimes flooring costs if a leak does appear.
Even if you are in a condo, townhome or a single family residence, you need to walk around and assess the condition of the snow, ice, and ice dams and take action to solve the problem before it grows into a bigger issue, we have roofing companies in our resource section on our website to contact for assistance in snow and ice removal.
We are happy for all the new snow in Winter Park we have some of the best snow in the northern Colorado Rockies.
