Hot Sulphur Springs is the county seat of Grand County. It had a population of 681 in 2020. The 125º hot mineral water has been a popular place to soak for many years. The indigenous Ute people came here to camp during the summer months prior to the settling of the town in 1860. The town was purchased in 1864 by William Newton Byers, founder of the Rocky Mountain News. He successfully marketed the hot springs to create a spa and resort for European visitors.
