Nordic skiing is a wonderful alternative to downhill skiing. It is a great way to get away from it all, stay in shape and enjoy the beauty of the Winter Park area. The Fraser Valley offers loads of options for cross country skiing. Two cross country ski centers are located within 10 miles from the town of Winter Park. Devils Thumb Ranch Nordic Center and Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center, both offer lessons and rentals as well as dog friendly ski loops. If you are feeling more adventurous, there are miles of trails, (mountain bike trails in thesummer), within minutes from Winter Park and Fraser. Ice Box Mountain Sports, located in downtown Fraser, rents cross country ski gear. The friendly shop owner and employees are happy to provide information about trail access in the area. Cross country skiing is accessible right in town! Grand Park, located west of Hwy 40 between Winter Park and Fraser grooms about 5 miles of trails in the meadow both for classic or skate skiing. Or right behind Safeway in downtown Fraser you can ski on the Fraser River Trail along the Fraser River while enjoying spectacular views of Byers Peak and the Continental Divide.
