Town of Winter Park Expanding it's Skate Park - by Dan Harper

One of the great things about living in Winter Park is all the options for extreme sports such as snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking and most recently skateboarding. Winter Park opened it's skate park in late 2007. Since opening, it has provided a positive and exciting environment for kids and adults alike. Many kids in the valley have experienced skating for the first time, and like myself, many "older" kids have re-discovered the joy of skateboarding. The skate park has also become a sort of gathering place for local parents to meet, talk and enjoying watching their kids progress their skills. The success of the skate park has led to the town expanding the park. Renderings for the new park have been made public for skaters to review and make suggestions before plans are finalized. The current design calls for a new bowl and an assortment of street features. The starting date for construction is still undecided. The town council will be meeting in May to review the town budget and make the decision to start construction in 2009 or wait till 2010.
