Did you know that Winter Park is home to one of the world's largest outdoor therapeutic recreation agencies? Well, it is! The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) was started in 1970 by founder Hal O'Leary. It started as a one- time ski lesson for children with amputations, from Children's Hospital of Denver. Today, the NSCD helps thousands of children and adults with disabilities get out and enjoy skiing, biking, horseback riding, river rafting , golfing, hiking and other outdoor activities. They offer a specially trained staff, and an adaptive equipment lab that make it possible for individuals with almost any physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral disability to enjoy all the benefits of outdoor activities in our beautiful Fraser Valley The Mission of the NSCD is this: âto provide quality outdoor sports and therapeutic recreation programs that positively impact the lives of people with physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral challenges.â For more information on the NSCD go to www.nscd.org/index.htm
