Spreading the Wealth (or at least a few of your hard earned dollars). My boyfriend/husband/significant-other-of-10+years (Im never sure how to refer to him as my clients well know) were talking the other night with a few friends. We were talking about the importance of being supportive of our local businesses. Weve all been trying to continue to eat out while at the same time trying to rein in our spending. We were pretty much all in agreement that even though werent eating out as much we were still finding good ways to get out and get our dollars into the hands of other locals that are running restaurants, bars and waiting tables. For example, instead of Kelly and I each having a big breakfast at Carvers the other morning, we split a delicious breakfast burrito with bacon and green chili total tab, under $13 and let me tell you, Law, the owner, and our waitress expressed their sincere gratitude that we getting out and being supportive. Another great thing weve found is to have dinner at home and then go out for dessert & a glass of wine. Whether you live in Grand County or elsewhere, try getting out there and spreading the love at some of your old haunts. I know we want our favorite local spots to be still be open when this recession is over, and Im sure you do too. For those of you spending some time in the Winter Park area during May and June try some of these mud season locals specials guaranteed to save you some $$s: at The Pub try Taco Tuesdays ($1 tacos), or a large, one topping pizza for $10.95 at the Back Country Grill, try their $9.99 dinners and 2 for 1 glasses of wine from 4:30 to 6 at the Sushi Bar, try their Happy Hour (4 6pm) 2 for 1 roll specials (your choice of California, Veggie, Veggie Tempura, or Spicy Fish of the Day) and when they reopen next week lets hope they bring back Ladies Night on Monday. It isnt really for ladies only, get two for one rolls all night. And Ive heard through the grapevine that the Cheeky Monk, at WP Village, will soon be running some mud season specials. As soon as we know the details well be passing it on. In the mean time I highly recommend a Monte Cristo sandwich and the Chocolate Fondue for dessert!
