Are you ready for a natural disaster in Grand County? Flood waters of the Fraser River overflowed its banks in Winter Park and Granby last night with more flooding expected thru Tuesday evening. The rapid rise in the river was due to snowmelt associated with warm weekend temperatures. Residents living near the river in both towns were evacuated by the Grand County Sheriffs department and hundreds more received reverse 911 phone calls alerting them of the danger. If you didnt receive a phone call now is the time to make sure you have all the information the county will need to contact you in the event of an emergency. If you have a land line you will automatically be notified by reverse 911 calls if you live near the area where the emergency has occurred. With many residents and second homeowners relying on cell phones it is important for you to sign up for notifications on the Grand County Emergency site and complete the informationin the CodeRED section. You will then be called in the event of evacuation notices, fires, flooding, hazardous material leaks/spills or drinking water contamination. The county is working on a system to notify residents who rely on VOI (voice over internet) and they will be notified by email. Please take this opportunity to be prepared!
