You may have noticed some heavy machinery working away at the end of Arapaho Road in the last few weeks. They are completing fuels reduction and are removing trees as part of this process. What this means to you is that Arapahoe Road and adjacent trails (Ice Hill, Chickadee, east Twin Bridges, and lower Serenity) are temporarily closed. Machine operators have very limited visibility and can not see people walking or biking in the area. Closures are for your safety! Elk Meadow Trail and D2 are also closed temporarily to all users. A little more info about the fuels reduction process... because of the mountain pine beetle epidemic, the U.S. Forest Service's Sulphur Ranger District is creating defensible space alone the Arapaho National Forest boundary with private property. A total of 102 acres along forest boundaries with the towns of Winter Park and Fraser are being cut to reduce fuels and the opportunity for wildfire. This is the last of seven units to be cut.
