Mountain Town Adventure Comes to Winter Park! - by Shanna Lalley

The Winter Park/Fraser Rotary Club, Grand Adventures and all of our sponsors our proud to bring you ultimate mountain town adventure on April 6th. In its inaugural year, Winter Park Wipe Out is urban scavenger hunt meets adventure race. Participants will pinball around downtown Winter Park working through mystery clues and obstacles. Upon completing each checkpoint participants will earn party beads & raffle tickets, which can be redeemed for terrific prizes. Challenges will include snow mobile tows, frozen turkey shuffleboard, hammerschlagen and many other wild winter games. Beginning at 3:00 p.m. participants will scatter around town for over two hours competing in mental and physical challenges. Brave enough competitors will be put to the test and complete their adventure by making their way through the Wipe Out Zone. Spectators will be watching you climb icy hills, crawl through tunnels, and dodge various frozen obstacles as you finish the race at Grand Park. Once your race is complete, participants are invited to the after party where they will be presented with beer, hot chocolate, smores, music and chances to win some amazing prizes. Winter Park Wipe Out will be challenging for all levels of athletes and encourages families and friends to race together. Winter Park/Fraser Valley Rotary Club has been planning this event for 16 months. Proceeds from the race will go to the Mountain Family Centers Tote Program. In Grand County children only attend school Monday through Thursday. Many of these children do not have enough to eat during the weekend. This school year The Mountain Family Center Tote Program has been providing 60+ children in The Kremmling Elementary School with a tote filled with food for the three day weekend. Expanding this program to the entire county is scheduled to begin fall 2013. It costs roughly $120 to provide food for one child for the school year. Mountain Family Center, with help from Winter Park/Fraser Valley Rotary, will be providing food for 265+ children. It has been found that a hungry child can have difficult times learning which can turn into behavior problems. We need our children coming to school ready to learn and become productive citizens of our county and state.
