Grand Lake Happenings - by Shanna Lalley

On Tuesday, June 11th a forest fire started in Rocky Mountain National Park on the west side of the Continental Divide. Started by a lightning strike, as of noon on Wednesday the fire had spread to 550 acres. Fire officials are working to hold the fire east of Trail Ridge Road (Highway 34), west of the Continental Divide, and north of Tonahutu Creek to prevent the fire from moving southward towards Grand Lake. For more information check out the Sky Hi Daily News. Regardless of the fire Trail Ridge Road remains open and Grand Lake is gearing up for an activity filled summer. The water level in Lake Granby has been steadily increasing and is expected to top out 20 feet below full. Believe it or not, this is higher than last years water level. As youre heading to out to Grand Lake check out the new Mustachios On The Lake Restaurant and Bar located on Highway 34 before you get to Indian Peaks Marina (formerly the Grand Elk Marina). Or check out the Grand Lake Chambers complete calendar of events.
