Boating on Lake Granby - by Dan Gile

Its actually not a lake but a reservoir creating in 1950 by the Big Thomson Project. If you ask about boating in Grand County most likely the answer you receive will be about Grand Lake, Colorados largest natural lake and a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. Located just a few miles away Lake Granby has over 40 miles of shoreline and is much larger than neighboring Grand Lake and every bit as scenic. If youre a fisherperson the lake trout, rainbow trout and brown trout fishing is quite good and a wonderful way to spend the day. Maybe youre the Party Barge type who would just like to spend the day cruising around with the family, or maybe a kayak is more your style. The island sanctuaries provide nesting areas for bald eagles and osprey and its easy to spend hours just seeing whos peeking out of the nests. Whatever your pleasure Granby Reservoir is a place youll be glad you took the time to visit. Boat rentals are available at the local marinas.
