The Chance to Work on Second Creek Trail - Sky Hi Daily News

Article Courtesy ofSky Hi Daily News andHeadwaters Trails Alliance

Three main drainages are featured on the north side of Berthoud pass: Current Creek, Second Creek, and First Creek.

Second Creek has the most moderate terrain of the three, with easy access off Highway 40. There is a beautiful trail here named after its drainage, Second Creek. Second Creek Trail is a mile long and takes you 800 feet up in elevation to the Broome Hut where you can visit for the day or rent it for overnight excursion (www.GrandHuts.org). You can also venture past the hut for stunning views of the nearby cirque and all of the high surrounding peaks. There is even access the Continental Divide Trail from here.

Whether you travel on this trail by skis and snowshoes in the winter or by foot in the summer, this trail is sure to take your breath away with all of its beauty. Headwaters Trails Alliance, the U.S. Forest Service, and Grand Huts Association invite you to join them for a chance to give back to this epic trail. We are having a two-day trail work project September 18-19. Feel free to join us on either day or both with the option of camping or staying at the Broome Hut overnight for free. We will be improving drainages and restoring the trail from erosion making it more sustainable for trail users.

Please RSVP for this project as space in the hut is limited. Please contact Headwaters Trails Alliance at 970-726-1013 or hta@headwaterstrails.org to RSVP and for further details on this project.
