The Lunch Loop - Trail Report

The Lunch Loop

Up here in the mountains we are fortunate to be surrounded by a myriad of choices for outdoor adventure. Everywhere we look outside, there is something new to try (and then some new gear to buy)!

The reality is, for manyof us, our bodies and our busy lives cant fit in a daily skin up Berthoud Pass or 10 runs at the ski area. For the days when we dont have the time, or our bodies need a rest, but our minds and spirits still crave The Great Outdoors, we are so very thankful for Headwaters Trail Alliance (HTA).

HTA has been busy grooming cross country trails all over the county. Side Note: Did you know that Grand County has more groomed Nordic terrain than anywhere else in North America!?

Our latest favorite is The Lunch Loop and here is how you get there:

Park in the small parking lot behind the professional building adjacent to Safeway (Winter Park Optical, Crossfit Thin Air and Fraser Medical Clinic are housed here). The trail starts between the parking lot and the first pond and runs parallel to Hwy 40, behind Rocky Mountain Moonshine and then loops you around just at the start of the Rendezvous neighborhood and returns you back to your car via the Fraser River Trail. You can take the trail back all the way behind Safeway (you will have to walk back to your car from there) or before you reach Safeway, you can cross the bridge on your left and end up back by your car (the easier option).

The loop should take you about 45 minutes - about the length of alunch hour - get it?

See you out there!
