The Vasquez Peak Wilderness: What to Do and See
The Vasquez Peak Wilderness is part of both the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. According to the USDA Forest Service, the area was congressionally established in 1993, and the 12,947-foot high Vasquez Peak is the tallest point of the wilderness. Thanks to the areas high elevation, breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape are easy to come by. The tundra of the Vasquez Peak Wilderness is a huge playground for outdoor enthusiasts! If youre here to hike, then the trip to the top of Vasquez Peak is just what youre looking for. The round-trip hike is 3.5 miles and climbs just over 2,100 feet in elevation. Expect not only boulders and rocky landscape but an assortment of beautiful wildflowers as well! The hike to Vasquez Peak might be the most popular, but its certainly not the only trail.
