Where to Begin When Skiing Winter Park
Winter Park Resort is Colorado's longest continually operated ski resort and on average receives almost 30 feet of snow annually, making it a top ski destination. Before you strap on your goggles, though, you'll need to determine which trail is right for you. Winter Park Resort's trails are grouped into The Seven Territories. These ski areas span the 3,081 acres of award-winning terrain throughout the resort. Each varies in difficulty and in the kind of experience you will have. Novice skiers should stick with the Winter Park and Terrain Park areas of the mountain. Build or hone your skills in one of the many terrain parks. The Starter and Bouncer Parks provide a place for you to practice riding freestyle terrain, while Ash Cat helps you build your park riding skills. Once you're warmed up, head over to the Winter Park Territory to make tracks in the freshly groomed slopes. Visitors looking to shore up their skills will be pleased to know that the resort also offers a Ski & Ride School for both children and adults. Those who are more experienced can choose from plenty of challenging options. The remaining five Territories have trails that range in difficulty from intermediate to expert. If you are skilled enough, you won't want to miss out on the famed Mary Jane Territory and the world-class moguls. Ski through a beautiful, challenging forest in the Eagle Wind Territory. For the thrill-seeking skier, The Cirque will provide more than enough challenges as it is the resort's most difficult territory. This double-black diamond terrain used to be accessible only by hiking and brings the thrill of ungroomed backcountry skiing into a patrolled area.
Equipment
Equipment is just as necessary as knowing which trails to hit. If you don't have gear, don't worry! Winter Park Resort has a number of rental options available. If you would rather take your skis home with you, the town offers plenty of local ski shops. Epic Mountain Sports, located on US Highway 40 in Winter Park, offers a full line of equipment (purchase and rental), tuning and repair services, and rental package deals. Nearby is Christy Sports, providing plenty of gear for rental or sale as well as a full line of winter clothing for the whole family. Shopping on a budget? Passes and Lift Tickets
Depending on the duration of your stay, you'll need a lift ticket or a pass, and Winter Park Resort has multiple options. If Winter Park is just one of several stops for you, then the Ikon Pass might be the one for you, as it gives you unlimited access to several iconic resorts in different states and limited access to others.
